Quizzing with LockDown Browser

If your instructor requires you to use Respondus LockDown Browser, here are some tips to help you.

First, if you are on your own machine, you MUST download the browser via OUR special link at http://www.respondus.com/lockdown/download.php?id=666246493

You won't be able to download the browser to campus machines due to permissions on campus machines.

Some machines on campus already have the browser, such as machines in the library. However, they do not have webcams which are needed to use Respondus Monitor which instructors may require. If you require a webcam you may need to use your own machine.

To begin a quiz, use a regular browser to go to BOLT and your course. Go to Assessment > Quizzes and click on the name of the quiz. There will be a button to Launch LockDown Browser rather than the "Start Quiz" button other quizzes in BOLT have.

For support, contact BOLT Support via phone at 1-866-921-0473 to make sure there is not an issue with BOLT first. If they can't assist you right away, contact Respondus at http://support.respondus.com/support/index.php

Updates to Class Progress

New features have been added to the Class Progress tool in BOLT. See when you accessed the course or downloaded content.

You are now able to see when you accessed a course.

To see this, go to the course, Course Resources, and select Class Progress. On the left side of the page, click on Course Access. This will load a page displaying when you logged into your course.

You are also able to see when you downloaded content topics.

To see this in Class Progress, click on Content on the left side of the page. This will load a page displaying your progress in the Content tool of the course. Any modules you downloaded will be tagged as "Downloaded".

Expand modules to see progress in their content topics by clicking on the “# Topics, # Modules” link.

Once you can see all the topics, any topics you downloaded will be tagged as “Downloaded”. (Note that the tool may still say you “Never visited” the content topic, even if you downloaded it for offline viewing.)

Do You Need Respondus LockDown Browser?

Is your instructor using Respondus LockDown Browser® (RLDB) for quizzes or finals?

RLDB is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within BOLT. When professors ask you to use Respondus LockDown Browser you will be unable to print, copy, go to another URL, access other applications, or close a quiz until it is submitted for grading.

If your professors use RLDB, you will need to download and install RLDB to any computer you take quizzes on.

If your professors allow you to take quizzes on iPad, you will need to download the Respondus LockDown Browser app in iTunes.

There is information at the BOLT Student Support page to get you started downloading and using Respondus LockDown Browser: http://departments.bloomu.edu/imdc/boltstudentsupport.html

For help troubleshooting Respondus LockDown Browser, you can contact BOLT Support at bolthelp@bloomu.edu or by calling (570)389-2888.
