Language Changes in BOLT on May 20, 2016

Language changes  in BOLT will go live May 20, 2016.

If you are taking courses at the beginning of the Summer (May 16), old terms will be present until the end of the first week of classes. The changes will occur on FRIDAY, May 20, 2016.

Based on results of user experience testing, the terms changing in BOLT for students are:
  • News to Announcements
  • Dropbox to Assignments

Again, please note these are language term changes and that functionality will remain the same.

The Changes

Brightspace's testing indicated that users had a better experience with the learning environment when using the updated terms. According to the testing, users prefer terms to reflect their practices and present a clear idea of functionality.

For example, users think of the Dropbox tool as a place to submit assignments. Therefore the tool should be called Assignments which is clear and reduces confusion about the online storage solution at

News will be changed to Announcements to clarify the function of the tool.
